What Makes Me Happy? Day 4 – May: I find Joy

What a mundane question: what makes me happy? In some ways, I feel like a little kid asking myself the type of questions adults ask. Open-ended, unquantifiable at the time questions, like, what do I want to be when I grow up? In the search for joy, I think it is important to have an idea of what makes me genuinely happy.

It is easy to list the obvious, what you read in everyone’s bio. Family, friends, pizza, long walks, reading, playing games. I want specifics, not general happiness. I want a springboard for what to search for. I thought happiness may be a good place to start.

Right now, decaf Paris tea makes me happy.

Being outside, when there are no mosquitos.

The smell of watermelon.

Breathing after eating a bunch of peppermints.

Flowers, except for daylilies and marigolds.

Hearing Alexa spell words to our curious children.

Do these moments create joy? Can you manifest moments of joy? Or, is joy solely like yesterday’s fleeting moments? Perhaps a place to start is by trying. I’ll add peppermints to tomorrow’s shopping list and see if I can create moments of joy.

What moments in your life bring you true happiness? What experiences you can do over and over to bring a smile?
