The Command
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” (Luke 6:46)
What It Means
Jesus asks a direct question: “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?” Calling him Lord means he is in charge, so saying it and then doing something else doesn’t add up. It’s easy to say “Lord” and then do what I want anyway. The real question is why I don’t do what Jesus is asking of me, and it comes down to who is in control.
Try It Today
Is there something you know God is asking of you that you haven’t done? Name it, and do the first step today. Then look at your life and ask where it reflects something other than Christ.
Tonight’s Prayer
Lord, I call you Lord, so help me follow you as Lord. Show me where I’ve been saying one thing and doing another. Show me what I’ve been putting off, and help me do what you say. Amen.
