Prompt:
Recite a famous love poem.

“Certainly! Here’s an excerpt from ‘How Do I Love Thee?’ By Elizabeth Barrett Browning:

‘How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.’

This classic sonnet is a beautiful expression of profound and enduring love.”

2. Write {type of poem} for {person} that likes to {interest}

This one is a fill in the blank. Remember the more details you give ChatGPT the more tailored the results.

Quick refresher on poem types.

If you don’t remember much from your high school poetry lessons. Here are a few popular poem types.

Sonnet – 14 lines typically about love. There are two main rhyming schemes ABBA ABBA CDE CDE and ABAB CDCD EFEF GG.
Haiku – three line poem, Line one is 5 syllables, line two is 7 syllables, third line is 5 syllables. Typically does not rhyme.
Acrostic– One word, often the theme, is broken apart so that each letter in that word, becomes the first letter in each line of the poem.
Limerick – A rhyming poem that is usually funny or rude. The rhyme is AABBA.
Couplet– a two line rhyming poem, can be combined into stanzas.

Be Specific About What your Valentine Likes to Do

When you are specific about what you want your poem to be about, ChatGPT can do its best. This is no different from any type of custom work. When I order a birthday cake for my daughter, I need to let the baker know it is for a child, what her favorite colors are, if there is any birthday theme or what the birthday girl’s interests are. If I’m not specific in my order, I will end up with a generic cake. ChatGPT works on this premise too. The more details you include in your “order” or prompt, the more tailored you poem will be.

Prompt:
Write a limerick about a boy who likes to play basketball.

“There was a young lad, full of zest,
Basketball court, his favored quest.
With a dribble so sly,
And a hoop-topping high,
His love for the game, truly the best.”

Prompt:
Write a sonnet to my husband who likes the stars and understanding the universe.

“In twilight’s glow, where stars softly gleam,
My husband’s heart, a cosmic dream.
He gazes up, seeking truths unknown,
In universe vast, his spirit is sown.

Through galaxies vast, he loves to roam,
With each constellation, he finds a home.
Astronomy’s dance, a celestial embrace,
His mind a voyage, traversing space.

His passion, a comet that lights our night,
Igniting wonder, a celestial delight.
In the cosmos, he finds endless grace,
A cosmic connection, his heart does chase.

So here’s a sonnet to my love so divine,
Together we journey, our souls intertwine.”

Both of these valentines are a good start. For my kids, I like short notes to accompany their candy. The first line is enough to make a theme-based valentine. As for my husband, I would never call him my “Aquatic Love” but the message works fine if I was writing a message that spoke to his interests.

From there you can write your Valentine.
